Intel also emphasizes AI! Meteor Lake series processors will be imported into VPU design

In the context of emphasizing the theme of artificial intelligence (AI) in Compute 2023, new products launched by various manufacturers also revolve around AI as the main focus. Intel, a major processor manufacturer, did not showcase its products at the exhibition in 2023. However, during the development, it was also announced that its codenamed Meteor Lake series processor will be imported into AI applications, and the practice of designing a new VPU core will be included, which has attracted market attention.

According to Intel, the Meteor Lake series processors, which will be launched in the second half of 2023, have been designed with VPU cores for AI operations. By independently operating the VPU of AI applications, in addition to improving the operational efficiency of AI, it can also reduce the workload of the CPU and further reduce the operating power consumption of the CPU.

In fact, the Meteor Lake series processors are designed with VPU cores and adopt a small chip structure, benefiting from the use of Intel Forveros 3D packaging technology. It is expected to be available to customers starting from the Intel 4 process stage. Among them, in the new core graphics card section, Intel pointed out that the Meteor Lake series processors will use the Arc AlchemistXe-LPG graphics processor module, which is expected to produce the same performance and functionality as Arc independent graphics cards, including DX12 Ultimate, ray tracing, and XeSS. With the support of these image functions, the Meteor Lake series processors have added a VPU core design, making their application of images more flexible and diverse.

From the perspective of ordinary users, the application of online video calling will be the best experience that highlights the introduction of VPU core design into the Meteor Lake series processors. In Intel's demonstration, after using Microsoft's AI acceleration application, users can use the built-in camera program on Windows 11 to provide Windows Studio effects background effects and track the user's facial and eye conditions. In addition, the new generation of power management will be able to understand the resource utilization status including processors and display units through the addition of NPU projects.

Overall, after importing the VPU core design into the Meteor Lake series processors, the GPU will be an ideal choice for media, 3D, and rendering channels.
